Spirituality

We hear the word spirituality often nowadays. The working definition of the word itself has been used so often in recent decades that it has lost some of its original intent and meaning. It is used in various circles now simply to announce accomplished virtue and piety - without necessarily having done most, or even just a little, of the transformative work required. However, those truly living a spiritual life seldom use it to describe who they are, the way they think, emote, live, and work because one of the most important tenets of spirituality requires the practice of humility.

Defined

What is spirituality anyway? The word itself encompasses myriad virtues that are intrinsic to the human species. Described in as short a way as possible, spirituality is the search for meaning and purpose in life, often involving a connection to something greater than oneself. It includes a sense of purpose, inner peace, and a belief in a higher power or a transcendent reality, though not exclusive to religious belief. People experience spirituality as a deep sense of aliveness, awe, or interconnectedness with the world. It can be defined and understood as the ability to interact with life and others by means of the naturally occurring humanitarian qualities that enable humans to be the best version of their soul-inspired selves.

Soul Activism

Spiritually mature people are calm and know how to evoke calmness in others. They have the same concerns and problems of every other human being on this planet yet live with the conviction that all of life is precious. These gently determined people share their wisdom by example and value the importance of being compassionate and caring to other people. Authentically spiritual people work daily to remain conscious and aware of as much of daily life as possible and accept that life will not always be filled with ease and happiness. They move through life with clear intention, with deliberate effort, and applied action. Daily they build spiritual muscles. By devoting some time every day to develop spiritual wisdom, we can more readily:

·      Identify the qualities and talents we have that promote the fulfillment of our life purpose

·      Clarify the virtues and values we have that the world is waiting for us to share

·      Listen to the perspectives of others with grace and kindness

·      Find meaning in, and embrace the lessons offered by troubling past experiences

·      Become clearer in our decision-making skills, followed by determination, and action

·      Heighten intuitive capabilities to see the larger picture in personal and public situations

·      Dissolve the many immature ego’s attachments that imprison spiritual energy and soul activism

in a world starving of human goodness and care

When living a spiritually infused life, you understand and accept that nothing happens to you. Everything happens for you as opportunities to awaken into your soul’s intention.
